CDM1250 remote connection question/problem

Post by Two Tone »

I am setting up a CDM1250 remote unit as a base radio. I am using about 100 ft of 10 pin cable between the two units, but this doesnt seem to work correctly. When I power on the unit, the power up beep just repeats itself with nothing on the display.

So the question is, am I using too much cable? Does anyone know the max length of cable I can use? Is an extender available for this? I will have to use a minimum of at least 50 feet.

Thanks!

First of all, you need to explain just a little how you have this kluged together. I hope your not trying to supply the 12 volts DC over the control cable your talking about. You need to put the power supply with the radio. If not then you will need some heavy wire to supply the 12 volts to the radio. For 100 feet, your probably going to need to run 2 runs of about # 8 or even # 6 to prevent the voltage drop when you transmit.

The next question is just how are you trying to control the radio? Your best bet would be to use a tone control system. This would require the use of a tone remote adapter at the radio and a tone remote control unit at the operator position. You will be limited in the number of channels doing it this way depending on the tone remote control system you use.

If your just trying to extend the control head away from the radio, then you need to use the correct cable and adapter board. But I don't think you will get it to work correctly due to the 100 foot distance. The data control signals don't like to work over great distances.

Jim, I am trying to extend the distance between the control head and the radio.

My apologies, I should have explained a little better.
