Is this the first sign of the Motorola buyout of Vertex?

Actually it was not a total buyout by" Mother Motorola", they control as of Jan 1st only 80% of the Vertex Standard
land mobile division, why did they buy vertex at all? Probably because they (Vertex)was being very competitive
in the market place, Kenwood had their day Vertex has theirs & Icom will certainly have theirs, but at least we can
guess that Vertex was enough of a "thorn" that they felt they needed to have a little more control. What effect will it
have?????? My guess is relative none with the exception of some Vertex equipment being marketed in the Motorola
cosmetic package (possibly with some improvements) Vertex will certainly start marketing equipment with some of the
Big "M" protocols that only Motorola & EFJ are currently marketing to public service organizations and alas this will take more of the heat off the "monopoly" issue that required M to share with EFJ in the first place. And last but not least
I would expect within a couple years maybe less any Vertex dealers out there that are the small "mom & pop" community
oriented radio dealers will loose their dealership, let's face it Motorola is BIG & they can afford to do just about what they
want 2 way is not their biggest slice of the pie & if they can retain their name on a good product & expand in other markets they know how. It will be interesting how it all shakes down, the announcement of the "takeover" was certainly kept
under wraps until announce time & everyone wondered if they would have a job the next day.........any comments

This is certainly an excellent step forward for Motorola, at least in their low-band offerings. For the longest time, as we all know, Motorola had very little to offer in VHF Lowband. At least this adds to the lowband product portfolio, which as far as I know, before this unit, was only the CDM/HT Waris series units.

Hopefully Motorola will continue to expand their 900MHz products as well, as again, as far as I know, the XTL1500/2500 are the only current mobile offerings in 900MHz, and that's a lot of radio for someone on a budget.

Are they still manufacturing 900MHz GTX mobiles? Would be nice to see a product in between the GTX and XTL1500/2500 for 900MHz. The GTX is/was an atrocious product IMHO.

800MHz won't happen until Nextel is done paying for everyone to get rebanded. Who wouldn't want to trade a MaxTrac for an XTL1500 on Nextel's dime? I imagine 900MHz will be lumped in with 800MHz, at least for the time being.

No, the GTX line has been canceled. See above for future plans for 800/900MHz.

Well at least the GTX isn't a problem anymore. I always thought it was a slow, clunky radio with a terrible user interface. Guess I could have asked one of our Sales guys if it's still on the market, but thanks for the heads up Jeff!

I guess we'll see what the future has in store for 900MHz here after the rebanding fiasco.

If history has anything to say about it (and this is purely SPECULATION), they'll finish the rebanding, then iDEN will be phased out.

Kenwood is making money off of where I work thanks to the expensive 900mhz offerings. The radio dude is pulling maxtracs back to the areas where they have trunked systems and ordering Kenwoods (for 20% of what the XTL would cost) to use in the conventional areas

Anybody checked/know whether the high-split model does 6 meters? Despite not being as wide as an X9000,
it's definitely a prettier radio....
