Hi, we just obtained several new XTS5000 and are licensed with CPS software Version R17 and am having HUGE issues. Can anyone help? I am in Nevada and need to try and get some normal frequencies programmed and it is gray and will not let us. Hell I do not even see a place for PL tones..... I am not a master programmer here and probably am dumb when it comes to the XTS 5000 but these are for search and rescue and I unfotunately have to try and program these and if anyone can help, I would be so much appreciated.

Re: Need help XTS 5000 - Search And Rescue
It is different from most past CPS versions, the CTCSS tones are now in the ZONE channel assignment pull down as are the actual frequencies and bandwidth type etc.
The conventional personality fields now only let you set the mode of operation, analog, mixed mode or digital and other features.
You also set your receiver bandwidth and transmit deviation in the ZONE channel assignment screen now.
In fact if you have an entire zone with the same personality type for every feature then you can use one single personality to fill the entire ZONE channel assignment up.
By this I mean, lets say you want ZONE 1 to have all digital channels ranging from 150MHz to 165 MHz in 1 MHz steps and all features are the same for all channels in ZONE 1, then you could make personality #1 in the CONVENTIONAL PERSONALITY field set to RX and TX for ASTRO as their RX and TX voice/ signal type and use personality #1 for all of ZONE 1's channels.
Edited, f'd that up sorry
For instance lets say you opened ZONE 1 and it had 1 channel in it and you need 16 channels, simply select the dual two smaller sized GREEN cross icons above the channel information field and then select the amount of channels needed to fill your zone up by using the up or down arrow icons where it says '# of RECORDS TO ADD' and use the up ARROW key to select 15 more channels.
Now it really gets easy for the PERSONALTY TYPE and PERSONALITY # if all are of the same type because the 15 added channels in ZONE 1 will all be set to the same type and same personality number as the first channel in this ZONE.
Remember where I said you can use one single personality for the zone, well you can if every item in every field in personality #1 is the same so for this example you can leave all personalities in this ZONE set to personality #1 and then your ready to fill the individual channel information across.
There is a however to using one single personality being used for each channel in the ZONE and this is if if you desire to have different features in some of the personality information screen, these would be for example features such as different modulation types, P25 and analog in the same zone etc, anything desired that is different in the personality screen for a channel will require using a 2nd personality in your ZONE.
In this case then you would need to make up a 2nd CONVENTIONAL personality for your different modulation type for example if you wanted a purly analog channel in the same zone along with others purly DIGITAL.
Then simply change the respective PERSONALITY # for that particular channel to match your 2nd CONVENTIONAL personality which has the different feature type.
OK are you lost now ?
hopefully not yet so now you can move on to filling in the individual channel information going across the CPS screen for each channel.
Next you fill each channel across going from left to right until everything is as you want, this is where the receive and transmit frequency and receive and transmit CTCSS/DCS tones or set and at the very end are where your P25 NAC Codes are set.
In the middle are other advanced features that I won't get into but you should see how things are set up by now in each channel.
When your done with channel 1 features in this zone you do the same for the next channel in this ZONE, each time moving across filling in the next desired info for each remaining channel.
There are some quicker methods to fill down instead of across and if you set your CPS to run the online help videos this will enlighten you more as how to find your way around CPS.
Hope this helps
Mike

Or, you could just take them to the radio shop and pay them to tutor you....
Re: Need help XTS 5000 - Search And Rescue
Yep probably best to take em to someone knowledgable,
That would have saved me from spewing a bunch of boring nonsense CPS instructions plus having to open CPS on this POS Dell PC, that likes to crash at a moments notice. (I know what dell isn't a POS)

Mike, thanks a lot!
Now it's much clearer for me as well, you know;)
As far as I had the same problem.
