VHF Spectra MidSplit - DA3KX+067W

I have a da3kx+067w that I am trying to program, have had success with other low bands but not sure if this is a high band or not. Identity sais it is 40 Watt and I am using low power cable. It does have the DB-15 in back and ONE DB-25 in front. I am using a DB-15 cable with RIB. This has an A3 control head.

It is the VHF mid split radio but when connecting power to programming cable I get nothing, when connected to radio it blows fuse? I have confirmed terminal polarity.

Am I using incorrect cable or input, I have tried with only programming cable power and with radio power on as well.

Programming my UHF is flawless.

You have to have the radio working with the A3 head first.
Then the programing cable plugs into the 15 pin jack on the radio chassis instead of the IGN cable.

The VHF Spectra in VHF is 50 watts and 136 -162 or 146 - 174 range.
There is a 10 - 25 watt version with much different final/back heatsink that looks like a Maxtrac PA.

I am stumped! I have programmed several Spectra remotes and attatched a good working radio to the remote cable. Plugged A3 head in and added programming cable to the harness (Not) the radio. When I apply power nothing. When I add the programming plug power to power supply it shorts fuse. Maybe the radio is not setup for remote head.
I have tried with power cables only and with programming cable only but can't get A3 head to light. I am about to ditch the project or an Orion if I can not solve. Hrumph!

If I can make a suggestion here, on the name tag is a second number that will start with a T43xxxxxxx type of number. The xxx are just sort of showing you there are other numbers. It should say ID at the start of the line and the serial number will be just below it. That ID number is what everyone uses to identify just what you have. The T is for trunk mount, the 4 is for the power rating and the 3 is for VHF. After that it will depend on what features and options the radio has.

Second, no one has mentioned that the heavy power cable needs to be connected to the 2 pins on the back of the radio and have 12 volts applied to it.

I am guessing the fuse that you keep saying that blows is the ignition wire feed. You still might have a problem with the radio, but it won't power up correctly without the power applied to the large 2 pins at the rear of the radio. Make sure you get the polarity correct. One pin will be ground and the other will be the +12 input. Normally the exposed bare pin on the rear is the + and the pin with the rubber covering it is the ground or negative.

I will look at the ID tonight. I do have the main power cable connected and the polarity correct. With it alone no power, if I attach the ignition and or programming cable it shorts.

The model number you have posted takes the A5 or A7 control head. Not the A3 HHCH controls/mic.

So that radio IS a VHF 50 watt with a 146 - 174 frequency range which is most common.
The other 'split one' which is 136 - 162 range AKA government range.

Both frequency range Spectras cover the VHF ham band just fine, and make a excellent radio.
