I am looking for input from others on pre mdc pre time length.
I currently am setting radios to 270ms and they seem to be working fine passing threw the repeater. Does anyone use longer or shorter lengths.
I don't want it to fast so other units cant decode it.

Re: mdc1200 pre time
I personally have all of our radios set for 800ms. I made them longer because some of the time the id's were getting cut off on radios that were scanning. It seemed to eliminate that problem. Also, occasionally the ID's would not display at the dispatch center (I'm a dispatcher at the 911 center). They display 99% of the time now.

There's no right or wrong answer there, depends on the system and the radios, all you can do is test it yourself. The longer the pre time the better luck you'll have with the recieve radio decoding it but if people don't wait for that time and start talking you'll miss what's being said

Re: mdc1200 pre time
I put the PTT Long Sidetone on all of our radios to prevent front clipping of transmissions. Yes it can get annoying, but at least you know the MDC has transmitted before you start to talk. Its also pretty handy on portables so you know if you accidentally key your radio.

Re: mdc1200 pre time
Thanks for the input. I do also use the PTT Pre Tone. I have found that 270-295 works fine. I have noticed that different radios do not perform the same Motorola seem to be fine and for the most part Kenwood as well. I have had some issues with the Icom radios
