another factory moded radio XTS3000 ?

Post by corruptRSS »

Regarding factory modified XTS3000 ?

This post is similar to a post regarding Factory Modified Sabers, however a recently acquired XTS3000 ? exhibits similar qualities.

The below radio was acquired from the same entity as the previous Saber, although more directly.
(ebay sale through distributing entity (Saber) vs. direct hand-off from owner (XTS3000). Interestingly, the acquiring of the XTS3000 ? had no direct relationship to the ebay sale.

The radio has a factory ID sticker that shows :

HRT-210
Serial No. 000n
also has factory 'engraved' serial no. on the metal backplate under battery.

Anyway, I received this XTS3000 ? from the owner within a group of eight various radios.

I powered it up to determine the band/frequency.
When PTT is depressed, the radio will transmit (VHF) in similar frequencies to the above Saber, for about 45 sec. (TOT?)

The ABC switch adjusts power levels.

The 'one dot' side button activates the backlight

The orange emergency button will deactivate the transmission in progress.

No other buttons / switches appear to affect operation.

Additional info: These radios seem to have some affiliation to a mil base.

The problem.

I have attempted to access the radios utilizing the below two software apps.

When the s/w attempts to access the radio, I see the radio 'flash' however, the apps come back with a msg. indicating that communication has failed.

I have tried all baud rates etc.

- motorola Professional Radio cps R04.00.00
- ASTRO Saber & XTS 3000 CPS R04.01.04

Below are the pics of the internals.

I have not previously owned an XTS3000 ? so I am not familiar the internals.

I think I may be short a VCODER or similar.

It has been 6 weeks since I 'played' with these so my memory is a bit vauge on some details.

I do not see any internal mods as in the Sabers.

Any help IDing problem areas with the internals or providing guidance on s/w access would be greatly appreciated.

thanks, jack

What radios do you own?: X9000 thru APX

I can only speculate based on this and the other radio that is could have been used for system/data testing, possibly for DataTAC or similar. There are better methods I am sure to go around for coverage/quailtity testing, but this may have been used for street level data device testing vs mobile units. It does sound like (the saber) RD-LAP 19.2, but really data can sound like anything at that point.

hey guys,

what i'm really looking for here is:

- is this radio complete ?

- should the listed cps:
- motorola Professional Radio cps R04.00.00
- ASTRO Saber & XTS 3000 CPS R04.01.04
be able to access this radio ?

if not, what do i need ?

if so, are there any tricks (key-holds etc.) to force a connection with the radio.

thanks, jack

I don't think your going to find an answer unless someone here actually worked on the radio, being that its specialized, and may not have even been outfitted by Motorola. Other companies have (and still do) buy the radios and then modify them for their uses.

The only other software I can think of trying would be WinRSS for the data stuff.

I'm betting the more likely situation is that these were SCADA or telemetry radios of some sort. I missed the thread on the Saber... Regardless, this radio is very interesting! I wonder if one could flash it back to it's normal mode of operation... Of course, if it worked, it'd never be able to get back to this strange mode.

I removed the link to the Saber thread.
It seems that this discussion was heading toward WHAT is the function of the radio.
The Saber was used to 'turn-on', 'turn-off', some remote device.

As indicated, my interest is:

- Is this radio complete ?

- Is there some manner to force a CPS connection ?

As a long shot, you might try reading the radio with a current, so to speak, CPS, which would be 5.02 or 5.03.

This is pretty harsh. If you don't want people to discuss this radio on a radio discussion board, you may want to consider looking for help identifying your radio elsewhere.

You also didn't mention if you tried putting it into test mode. If that doesn't do anything it's a pretty safe bet it's flashed with custom HOST/DSP firmware, and would be unreadable to any normal flavor of Astro RSS or CPS.

That radio is short one VOCODER board and the means to connect it to the controller. Based on the pictures of the controller, P25 is not going to be happening... ever.
