Maxtrac 5 pin expansion to 32 channels

Dear friends,

I have a 5 pin maxtrac board HLN5173A with additional eeprom 28c16.
How i can upgrade this board to 32 channels conventional?
I have tested the firmware eprom SP98071 on HLN5172A 5 pin board and the radio expanded to 32 channels with mdc1200.
When I put this firmware to HLN5173A there are no display and no turn on beep on the radio.
Does maxtrac's cpu reject for this firmware.
If I put the 5.34 firmware to HLN5172A the radio still dispay 32 channels, but no ptt. If I put 5.34 firmware to the HLN5173A board, no response from the radio, no display, no beep.

I don't remember if HLN5172A has RAM installed.

Any solutions ?

Some years back I came up with a mod for a 5 pin board to make it sort of into a 16 pin board. I had to cut a couple of lands, add a couple of wires and add a 10 K pull up resistor. Just looked on the computers here and didn't find my notes. Will have to look around on some of the older computers and old hard drives I have laying around at the house.

What I basically did was look at the control pins on the 16 pin board and duplicate it on the 5 pin board. Nothing hard, just some time looking at the 2 circuit diagrams. After the mode, I was able to use the additional channels that the 16 pin board has. You will have to change the control head for the channel displays if you only had a 2 or 4 channel radio. Think I started out with an 8 channel radio.

Are you blanking then re-initializing the logic board after changing the firmware?
If not then that is why it is not working correctly.
To change from one firmware version to another you must change the firmware IC, then blank the board with MAXTRAC LAB then re-initialize the board with either the LAB or normal version of MAXTRAC RSS.

It doesn't accept a SP firmware.

You should not have to ask, but just supply the solution you found. Many on the board here are a little shy and choose not to make a post, but read it like a hawk.

Just add RAM and EEPROM and use SP98071 firmware that found on ebay
