APX7500 O3 programming cable(s)?

Post by Pj »

I have heard that it cannot be used, but I have also heard that it can. N3JFW here tells me it cannot be done and I believe him, however I ask anyways..

Is there any way that a XTL5000 USB data cable (which also programs the radio) be used with the O3 APX7500? Windows XP will recongize the radio as a network device and install the drivers, APX tuner will read the radio, but APX CPS will state that Motorola Communications Services is not enabled (or to that effect) and will not read the radio.

Pretty much stuck borrowing/buying a new programming cable?

Sounds like that has carried over from the XTL5000 where you could use the USB cable with the O5 CH but had to use a serial cable if connecting to the TIB for radios with an O3 CH. I haven't done one for a while but if I remember correctly the ASTRO25 CPS would display an error telling you this?

My interpretation of the price pages is that only the USB cable through the 26 pin jack are supported.

Yes, I can confirm that, at least with the XTL series, the rear accessory cable with the USB connector does work with both control heads, I can't confirm whether the APX7500 is the same but from your description of the problem it seems like it's inherited this trait from it's ancestor?
