Best radio for GMRS Rx, PM400, CM200,M1225 or CDM1250

Post by my2friends »

Need a UHF receive radio for GMRS to be a receive radio for my repeater. Need the 16 or 20 pin connector. Which radio has the best sensitivity and selectivity for a UHF repeater receiver? Will eventually narrow band the system so keep that in mind also. CDM1250, M1225, PM400 or CM200 or possibly a CDM1550? Or other suggestions as long as they have a batwing and a 16 or 20 pin connector. THANKS in advance for your help

What radios do you own?: CDM's, CP's, CM's, and more

I have all the spec sheets here and the CDM's are just slightly better, but not by much.

All of the radios you listed will do 20KHz and 12.5 KHz channel spacing.

If you only need single channel receive, don't forget the CDM750. They are slightly less expensive than the 1250's and 1550's these days and have all the same performance specs.

The best buys for used radios right now appear to be the M1225's.

Edit to add: One other point that may or may not matter to you. The M1225 is FCC type-accepted under Part 95. The others are not.

The M1225 is a good value for what you get, but as this radio is 'old' the radio does not have the ability in many instances to adjust the transmit for error.
I have several in UHF and have to keep them somewhat stable in temp for the error to minimize in my favor(low side error).
This way, and excursion occurs INSIDE your channel's occupied bandwidth, and not in someone else's.
I have one I checked a few days ago, and I had to crank the softpot all the way up------> to keep it under a 1k error when on a narrowband channel.
Age does make a difference, and not all old radio are a bad deal, just check them out before you buy or build.
Since you are building a repeater, go with the CDM750, excellent deal, great sensitivity and selectivity.
Can really scream once you fine tune the receiver front end filters.
