EX600 won't Transmit or Recieve

Post by kc2pap »

Hello Batboarders-

I've come across an odd problem with my EX600XLS. It seems to have some sort of internal problem. It barely receives any transmissions, and only transmits from close range, for some reason it won't hit any nearby repeaters. I can have it sitting next to my ht1250, and the 1250 will pick up transmissions loud and clear, where this radio barely even picks it up. Model No. AAH38SDC9AA3AN. Any Ideas?

Are you sure it's an EX600? That model number is for an EX500.

Yes, I'm sure its a 600. I just re-read the sticker on the back and it matches up with the one posted, but you're right, it comes up as a 500 when matching it up. Did whoever I buy it from switch the sticker maybe?

But besides that, any clue as to what the problem can be?

Has it worked for you in the past or is this a new acquisition ? If you just got it it's apparently a franken radio that perhaps the tuning data got hosed when someone modded it.

It has worked in the past, and after opening it up and examining it, turns out one of the ribbon cables from the main board to the keypad, had a slight tear in it, affecting 4 "lines" on the ribbon cable. After replacing it with a spare cable from a parts radio, it works great. About the sticker, I'm a little upset as to why it's wrong, but I can move on. Thanks BB'ers!
