Looking at getting a xts 5000 for personal use with my department (scanning surrounding departments) i also run our command truck on large incidents. i have a chance to get a fpp radio but not knowing the in's and out's of this... is it a good deal in getting ?
motorola is so expensive on reprogramming radios they keep going up on their price!! i had an inside guy that i could always go to and has sinced left!!
my salesman also left due to issues with the company so im stuck asking here to you guys .
all the options on this radio dont apply to my area yet but will in the future. i want to be ahead of the game as i have the last 15yrs...
would also like to get into the ham end due to the resourcefulness those guys can be durring natural disasters and weather related events!! i also understand that our ps radios work with their setups
i understand the programming rules here but can you really program this radio on the fly if equipped??? and all the firmware codeplugs upgrades if u do this the fpp goes away... i dont want to get into a situation where i ruin my investment!!
thanks
Jeffery

Re: xts 5000 information???
Hi Jeff - As long as you get a radio with BOTH the Q52 and Q53 options, your FPP will never go away. Unless you need the fancy encryption features, your money is probably better spent on the XTS2500. I can't think of any other major differences between the two. Make sure the model number ends in BN, not the older AN. Note that many options aren't programmable via the front panel. You can edit frequencies and squelch parameters, but you still need to use the CPS to program button functions, assign scan lists to channels, etc.
