Maxtrac speaker

Post by jhooten »

Dear Motorola,

Why bother to put a speaker in the front panel of the Maxtrac and not bother to run wires to it?

You may have a radio used as a data transmitter only, like SCADA, so no speaker is necessary.
OR...it was disconnected.

Or stolen to use in another radio that had a bad speaker. Not uncommon..

You could check the mounting holes for the speaker to see if they are threaded. If so, the speaker AND cable/connector were 'stolen'.
IF the four mounting holes are un threaded, the speaker with it's cable and connector was not installed at the factory.

Or, maybe that control panel was not on that radio originally. Real easily changed.

When the model was current and selling like hot cakes, I saw Maxtracs with speakers but no wires in the front panel. Goes back to the 5 pin days.

I used to see this when the radio was factory ordered with the external speaker option.

It is an older 5 pin. The factory speaker is in the front housing. The wire pair with the little molex connector was never installed, there is no solder on the speaker lugs. If you ordered the radio with an external speaker that is they way the came.

Here is an answer from a guy who said he used to work for /\/\ that was slipped over the transom, are you ready for this? "To keep dirt from getting through the grill."
At first I though he was joking. He wasn't.

What radios do you own?: Spectra, Maxtracs, MT2k, GP300

Someone also could have grabbed the cable out of there as not all maxtracs had soldered speakers. I have a couple older models that have quick connect terminals that slip onto the speaker terminals without solder.
