M1225 + Narrowband = terrible audio???

Post by Tim »

Hi Folks,

I have a couple of VHF M1225 mobiles, and when set for narrowband, they sound terrible.

Wideband sounds 'normal'.

Has anyone else seen this? If it were only one of the radios, then maybe just a fluke, but 2?

The audio sounds bad on several channels also, not just one.

Thanks,

Tim

What radios do you own?: CDM's, CP's, CM's, and more

Is this between two narrowband radios or is it between a NB and a WB radio? Makes a huge difference.

Do you have X-Pand turned on for each mode that is 12.5?

From what I see in the Help, the NB default for the M1225's is to have X-Pand checked. And it is the only adjustment I can see in the RSS that could affect audio quality.

My experience with M1225 is they sound just fine. But, you do have to make sure xpand is turned off. You might want to check them on a service monitor. Someone may have aligned tx audio wrong, and they are really putting out WB dev.

Hi Bill/Steve,

That was it - the Xpand. When you click on 12.5kHz, it automatically selects the Xpand.

Turning it off made all the difference.

Thanks!
