Reband XTL 2500's

Post by radioguruphil »

I am having PTT issues with some 800mhz reband radios I recieved five or so years ago from Nextel via Motorola. So far two have failed. At times the side tone will not sound and the PTT light will not come on. If your rekey or hold the PTT button in it will work. Changed mics and put the CH and RAD into different vehicles. Same issues. I am now concerned a third radio is starting to fail as it make a popping sound when you PTT. Motorola price to repair $400 a pop. Has anybody else had the same issues ? What were the results ? Thanks, Phil

Absolute first thing is what firmware version do you have? Also looks like you have remote mount radios, there is a possibility of some sort of glitch going on between your RF deck and CH. You could try reprogramming from a known good archive from the rear port of the RF deck. If that doesn't work, a refresh FW load may do the trick. I had some XTL2500's do simular stuff with 12.01 FW. Reprogram with good archive seemed to work for me on all except 1 remote. I had to use the control head sync program to get that one back....
