First off, yes, I searched for this before asking. If it's been covered before, my apologies.
I have a UHF Range 2 438-470 motorcycle Spectra (M34KXA7JA5AK) ripped apart on the desk in front of me. There is a RF jumper from the VCO to a socket in the middle of the RF board that I have never seen on any other Spectra I've ever looked at. What's it for, and is it something that the RF board needs to operate, or the VCO needs to lock?

The cable is the VCO isolated RF output that goes to the Synth section on the RF board. If you change the VCO to the 'later' type, you would have to change the RF/Synth board to match.
Some VCO's with the cable can be changed to feed the signal down pin one, but not all boards are capable or have the traces.
And to make things more confusing, some RF/Synth boards are capable of either type VCO with jumper changes. Not documented in the books.

Yes, as it just so happens, the Astro Spectra RF board I was working with had the spots on the board for the socket. All I had to do was install the socket and pop a jumper off, and it was playing with the VCO nicely. Will wrote: And to make things more confusing, some RF/Synth boards are capable of either type VCO with jumper changes. Re: UHF Motorcycle Spectra VCO question
Can anyone elaborate on this anymore as too what jumpers need removed or placed
Re: UHF Motorcycle Spectra VCO question
Are you asking about the VCO signal input?

Re: UHF Motorcycle Spectra VCO question
IIRC there was a 0-ohm jumper near the landings on the RF board for the socket. Remove that and solder the socket in.
