Initial battery charging on a rapid charger

Post by BCNY »

I just purchased a brand new Multiplier battery for my MTS2000 and I do not have a standard rate charger, I have the Intellicharge "2" (RPX4747) Rapid Charger. I am under the impression that a standard rate charger is better to use when initializng the battery when you first receive it, since the battery will be sitting in the charger for at least 24-hrs. Is it the same amount of time (24-hrs) when using the Intellicharger "2" rapid charger? Is it ok to leave it in the rapid charger over night? I never initialized a new battery (ok, everybody is laughing. I know, pretty funny). Will I cook the the battery leaving 24-hrs in a rapid charger?

Thanks, Rich...

The right time to initialize is 16 hrs. Motorola makes this recommendation for both trickle or rapid chargers. For subsequent charges that charger will go green at about 80% so add 2 hrs. to bring it up to 100%.
Give it 2-3 full charge/discharge cycles to start you off to 'shape' the battery and you should be good to go.

You really need to do the first charge in a 16 hour, AKA slow charger.

The Rapid chargers will burn up your battery if left in the charger for more than ONE hour after the charger switches to CHARGE.
