MCC5500 Console Demo Disk

Post by Mikey »

Ok, not sure if this can be done, but i have a MCC5500 Demo disk that Motorola gave me and i would like to use a current screen layout that my shop has configured for an actual MCC5500 Console instead of the crappy generic screens that motorola gave us with the demo disk. I have tried importing layouts with no luck, also tried to hex edit the program to try and figure out wha thte confiq password is but no luck there either. Any idea's?????

I would really like to use this demo as a tool to let customers see what an actual local console looks like but it just isnt working out.

Are you wanting to put it on a customer computer or one of your shops pc's? I don't know about you but i run a version of every console i work on right on my laptop along with whatever configuration software like the CSDM is used. Of course this is with the exception of the mip500 which requires a dongle. I haven't installed a MCC5500 in a couple years. Does it take a dongle now as well?

I'm trying to use it on my computer as a "Demo" but the demo software will not let you reconfigure the gui's on the screen and i cannot use the actual console software because then it won't let you past the login screen cause its trying to find the CEB that isnt there. IF there was a way i could use the actual software without it trying to communicate with the CEB then my problem would be solved. And to answer your question, no the MCC5500 does not require a dongle.

The MCC5500 demo disk is lack luster and provides a bare bones look at the look and feel of the console.
The MCC5500 does not use any dongles whatsoever.

The CAB(local control) operates the CEB with the included DAP Gen 1 or II cards(digital).
Hex editing the software isn't required as once you are in the actual setup, you are 'supposed' to perform a drop-ddown approach to programming the CEB, first to last, top to bottom, fixing any errors along the way, before saving the config for actual use.redo this again and again several times before

The books for programming the DAP cards and their iButtons(DAP II)(NOT included) is not for the faint of heart, if you hate reading.
Each manual for the console is about 2" thick and actually covers everything in detail, almost to a fault as well.
I do love the pin-outs for every audio I/O, as well as punchdown locations once you are semi up and running.
I also love the GUI for the selected/unselected audio routing for the CAB installation.
The IRR for the audio recorder is NOT the best by any means, I had to redo this again and again before the tracks would record/playback properly, as well as show the sudio on the screenshots for the logger.
I wish I had my copy of the installation/programming for the MCC5500, I loved that console...but what a bear to cable!
The CAB, CEB and computer hardware was once thing, but add in the door controls, GPS interface and Eventide loggers.......*WHEW*

I have several Configurations saved that we have set up for past customers, i just wish there was a way i could load it into this demo so i could have the look and feel of the real console setup the customer will be using. also this would make it helpfull for training before the actual MCC5500 is installed at the customer location.

You can do a complete system setup on the bench, that's how I did mine.
This format does take up a lot of bench space, but once you hammer out the issues, setting it up at the customer's location is easy.
Connecct all the cables, prpgram your DAP cards, create a working setup in the menu and OSD, then connect your punchdown blocks for your wireline
control as needed.....Radios too.

Im wanting to use this as a Sales tool to demo the unit at potential customer locations. The only thing i hate is the cheesy layout and limited bility of the default configuration. Why couldn't they have made it to where you could load your own setup and gui's into the demo program? From what i gather its the full blown software with a small modificatoin so the unit doesn't try and look for the CEB on startup.

I really, REALLY hate to dig up a thread that is almost 2 years old, but...

I work in a 911 Center, and we have no way of training new personnel how to use the radio until we actually sit them in front of the radio with a senior dispatcher. Have you figured out how to do this, because if so I'd love to know - we'd definitely be able to train our folks MUCH better than just sit down and say "push this to talk, and just do what that guy over there does".

I tried and tried and never could get the software hacked to let me load a custom confiq file. I eventually just gave up :-(
