Modding Spectra A5 for Nuis/Delete?

Post by Splat »

Anyone modded their Spectra A5 head to get the nuisance Delete key working? How'd you go about doing it? Thanks. Yes, I'm too broke to buy an A7 head for one button.

Well, I did it the easy way. ;) I cut a square hole where the "Del" key goes and moved the H/L key there. Could'a putzed with the circuit but this was easy. Thanks.

I'm assuming it shows A7 in the codeplug, because otherwise that shouldn't work.

Nope. All you have to do to get the DEL key to work on a A5 radio is to provide key access to it as the OP has done, or put the A7 face on the control head. No change in the control head type is required in the RSS. The respective A5 and A7 control head boards themselves are the same, and all the functions that particular key controls are there. That being true, why MotherMoto also deleted the DEL key when they left the number keys off the 5 heads is beyond me. If you have an A7 face and buttons in place and have the appropriate functions enabled in the software that use the numerical keys, you may find that the A7 keypad functions actually work, too. I know from much experience that you can put an A7 control head on the analog A5 Spectras and vice-versa, and the radio doesn't know the difference as far as the A5 functions go, but I have never tried to enable the optional A7 numerical keypad functions on an A5 when substituting an A7 head.
curmudgeon.....and I like it.
