If you think THAT'S low, you wouldn't even want to hear what I make at my last job before I retired. WHERE were those jobs fifteen or twenty years ago? I sure never found one!

"The Metropolitan Council is really having trouble filling this one!"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

No doubt.

Thirty years ago I took a job in Minneapolis that paid north of $50K - it wasn't enough even then!

With the cost of living there, that has to be pretty close to poverty level today.

Ironically, I have a GROL and I would love to apply for either of those jobs, but I don't meet the other requirements. Given their difficulty filling the Met Council, maybe I should apply anyway!

Wow.... Going way off topic here but.... if you "do less and get paid more" at YOUR power company I either 1 Want to work there
2 Would hate to be a rate payer of your utility and hear someone kinda bragging like that. Things are getting really screwy in the Power industry, even to the municipal level which has historically been about the most stable industry around. Don't know what type of "meter work" you do but guys in my meter shop are busting :o on all of the new AMI stuff coming out as well as maintaining all of the legacy stuff still going. Overworked, underpaid and a hiring freeze to boot. NOT meter readers. Meter Technicians. People responsible for income from commercial and residential electric metering.

If you get paid more and do less, congratulations. Enjoy while you can. Not all of us are in the same boat.

Dave

I feel a topic lock coming on.......

Should I feel bad that with 10 years of tech/maintenance and management experience within the same company I make substantially less than the smallest number on this page? :o

my company went first generation remote network reading back about 99-2000 the old cellnet system. we just upgraded to to 2way/overlaid utilinet 2way meters over our one way system

i take care of a route in new haven the fairhaven and the hill section. i make more than 25 an hour. i work 40 some times a little more.
seeing how we have the new remote disconnect meters it has cut back on out credit disconnects gives us a chance to go thru inspect and lock up things properly as well. i would rather swapp a meter than have to do a manuel disco

The problem with all this is that if you're making, say, $60,000 per year and don't add at least that much to the gross national product, you're harming your country. Simple as that. That is the one and only reason that this country is in the deep financial mess that it IS in. FAR TOO MANY people in this country are making far more than they could ever produce and, in doing that, they are bankrupting their country. That is also the ONE and ONLY reason that jobs are being shipped overseas. I don't believe that being paid far more than one produces is something to brag about. It should be hidden away and avoided as much as possible OR it should be rectified as soon as possible. How many people making these exorbitant salaries are going to be bragging when they are paid in dollars that are TOTALLY worthless, even more than they are today? If you doubt my words, one simple question is worth pondering; How is it that the US was the wealthiest nation on earth when the majority of its citizens were making anywhere from $1.00 to $5.00 per hour and the US is on the verge of bankruptcy when its citizens are making $20.00, $30.00, $40.00 per hour. Answer that question CORRECTLY TO YOURSELF and you will have learned a priceless lesson in economics; put that lesson to practical use and, one day, you will be hailed as a NATIONAL HERO. Think about it.
