Have chance to buy a XTL2500 VHF Mobile and want to get some info on it.

We run local analog P25 here so I think this radio will work for that but are there any other details that can be provided?

The radio will work for your needs, but currently has an analog only (Non-Digital) flashcode. It will need an upgrade.

None of our agencies have any intention to go to digital P25 or whatever and run only the basic P25 around here.

Right now, that is a conventional, analog radio. Basically it's as stripped as can be. So add the cost of upgrades to the purchase price, & decide if it's worth it. GARY

I could probably get it for $250 but I would need it to do P25 so depending on that cost

Welp, I'm going to hook it up to make sure it hasn't been flashed already because he ordered it and had to use for it our P25 system so if it is flashed and will work then its a steal for $300 if not then I'll try to talk him down and turn it over on egay to make a few bucks.

Need some clarity here. P25 is not analog, it is digital, so you'll need that upgrade if the local services are truly P25 or mixed. Everything shown in the FCC database for your county is analog conventional, no P25 anywhere, so if they are analog and aren't going to digital, you won't need the upgrade. Either way, the radio is intrinsically worth more if it has the digital flash, and it prepares the way for possible future system upgrades, provided they are in the same band.

Where I work at a police department is P25 sorry I meant it as not encrypted P25 just basic P25.

The county where I volunteer is analog (still wideband) LOL

The first zero in that flashcode you cited means that the radio does NOT have P25
capability, and it does NOT have enhanced digital display capability, period. If the
radio had these two features the first digit would be a 5 and not a zero.

You need
to have the radio reflashed to get those features, if indeed that IS the flashcode now
in the radio. Check the radio's display as described to real the actual flashcode that
is now in the radio. Oftentimes the flashcode on the label has been upgraded to a new
code and you read the ACTUAL code from the radio's display.

If you find the flash upgrade too expensive then just shop around for a radio whose
flashcode begins with a 5. I think that the P25 capable radios are now more common
than the non-P25 units.
