XTS battery - NTN8610B - date code 003 - year 2000 or 2010 ?

Post by g8tzl2004 »

I have recently acquired an XTS Lithium ion battery which seems to charge up OK. There is very little wear on the battery contacts and case so its not been used much.

The model number is NTN8610B LM

The date code is 003

Anybody know if 003 stands for 3rd week of 2000 or 2010?

Did Motorola actually make lithium batteries back in 2000?

Thanks

If your battery is not an after market battery, there will be a 3 digit
date code stamped somewhere on the case. The left most digit is the
rightmost digit from the year of manufacture, the middle and right
digits are the week of manufacture. For example, a battery with a
312 date code would have been manufactured in the 12th week of 2003.

But 312 could be 1993 or 2003!!! Thats my problem. Is date code 003 the 3rd week of 2000 or 2010!!

As the XTS3000 was first manufactured in 1996 (I think) , then the battery could be from 2000 or 2010..both will have the same identical date code.

Were lithium batteries even available in 2000 for portable radios? Since that battery will fit both the XTS3000 and XTS5000 it might jut be a 2010.

That battery was canceled long before 2010.

The 12 1/2 year lithium battery seems to works great!!! Even running 5W.

I have a 2002 lithium battery for a HT750 and that works OK at 1W but its unable to deliver enough current at 5W without excessive voltage drop.

In my cell phone "collection", I have found that early lithium batteries , say 1996-1999, will no longer work. But lithium batteries from 2000 to 2005 work great. After 2005, results are varied...probably due to cheap Chinese rubbish cells being used?

What about date code 645 for a NTN8610B

Is it 1996 or 2006?

Was an NTN8610B battery available in 1996. The XTS3000 was first manufactured in 1996, I think.
