Centracom Gold Elite Tone Volume

Post by acs680 »

Is there a way to adjust the volume of the QCII tones going out of the console? The EMS agency that we dispatch for is saying that the tone levels are way louder than the dispatchers voice, and that they have to ride the volume knob all day. Here's the strange part. We have been using this configuration for years. The only thing recently changed was 2 new MTR repeaters were put up. We discovered that the PL out of the control station was clipping the repeater, so we turned the deviation down slightly. Other than that, no changes were made on volume levels.

What's the deviation of the paging tones? Whats the average voice deviation? Are you running narrowband? If so, you don't want to go below 2 kHz deviation for your paging tones to maintain decode reliability.

Did anybody do the wireline alignment on the repeaters when they got changed out? Or.... if they aren't wireline from the console is that the control station you are talking about? If control station PL is clipping repeat audio, sounds like the control is wideband and the repeaters are narrow. If it worked before and now it don't and only thing different are repeaters, I'd start there.

I've been working on Gold Elite for some time, and to my knowledge (and I've researched the subject), there's no way to independently control levels of tones (alert tone, QC paging tones, DTMF, etc) other than the BIM's front panel transmit level adjustment, which also affects voice & tone signaling.

I've got the same situation on a system here where the voice audio and tone keying is perfect, but the QC-I (yes, that's right) tones are entirely too loud.

If the console is controling the MTR via wireline there are 2 ways

(1) have the tones use a different TRC keying command and set the MTR to key without PL on that TRC, the mobiles will not hear any tones unless they are in monitor.

(2) have the tones use a different TRC keying command and set the MTR to devation cut on that command, I am assuming the MSR can do this the MSF could do a 2khz cut (when in wideband)
Cause Motorola said so that's why

Just looked at Quantar software and I do not see the Devation cut as an option, not sure about the MTR
