Was browsing thru an expired Motorola pricing contract with NY (Expired 12/2010) and came across these gems:
Listed under XTL/XTS/APX flash upgrades..
Q243 ENH: UPGRADE TO DIGITAL VSELP $ 700.00
Q348AB ALT: 512K UPGRADE ASTRO-SABER $5,000.00
QA00276AA ENH: REBAND UPGRADE XTL1500 $400.00
Q575AB ENH: TRUNKING 3600 BAUD LIMITED FLASHPORT $300.00
QA00275AA ENH: REBAND UPGRADE XTS2500 $400.00
XTS4000 prior to adding the options had a base of $1400 (then add the $1200 conventional P25 operation..)
A basic dual band APX7000 with holder, battery and antenna and charger worked out to be about $4700.

- What radios do you own?: XTS5000R, Astro Saber III, I
Re: Fun in state contracts
I was looking at the same thing ( Astro Saber charge for 5K ). Must be a typo.
Or . . . . .not ?? I didn't think anyone still used Astro Sabers.

My guess it was for the VOCON swap out for fielded AS to the 1MB VOCON's. However, those ran about $1k list IIRC at the time.
I'd say its legit to scare people into upgrading.
