RS232 and XPR4550

Post by dasuriano »

Does anyone know if the XTL RS-232 cable will also work for an XPR mobile radio? I tried it today and kept getting errors, but I also believe that my software was not the compatible version. So, before I go any further, will this cable even work or is there a way to get it to work?

Oh well, I guess I was hopeful that the error meant that I was just using the wrong version of the software. Updating it didn't fix it and I guess that explains why. I am curious as to one thing though. If the cable doesn't work, why does it show an Impres accessory when I connect the cable? Is that just something standard that happens when the mic port is used?

On the portables, there is 1 wire dallas chip in the cable that tells the radio "hello im a cable" Not sure how your cable is, sounds like maybe your has the same thing? not sure.

You can chop the end off a USB cable and crimp this connector on it and you got a 5 dollar mobile / repeater programming cable

Make sure you get the pins right or you will fry your usb port.. Like i did.. Radio still sitting here... dead... **sigh**
