Stacking XTL5000

Post by kb4mdz »

Anyone ever come across a way to stack XTL5000's?

Standard remote mount, with the slide-in trunnion HLN6861. In this case it's for a test bench and I've got one unit under the shelf; I just want to have another slot below the usual test unit, to slide the radio under test in & out & have quick access to all the connectors.

thanks.

Mid-powers? The dual Spectra trunnion (used for the fed dual Spectra to A3 head contraption) works fine for remote drawers. I don't know if it would work for dash-mount units, but might be worth a try. The part number is in a thread around here someplace... it's an odd part (YLNxxxx or something like that).

The dual radio bracket (not sure if its still available, but wasn't expensive when I bought mine) leaves a gap between the radios. So if your looking for one directly on the other one, your best bet is to fabricate a small metal strap to keep them together. If not, the remote dual trunion from Motorola is YLN4718A, the dual power cable (two power connectors next to each other, one lead): YKN4267A.

Years back each were running ~$30

Not to state the obvious but if you're stacking XTLs like this you should maybe think about some kind of external cooling as well? Depending on the duty cycle they can get fairly warm, maybe a cheap 12V PC chassis fan mounted to the underside of the shelf behind the stack?

For literally just a few bucks it's pretty cheap insurance!

This won't be a high duty cycle application - I want to hang the stack from the bottom of a shelf over my workbench, and have a test bed, not make a set of transmitters for net control.

Oh and I think the price on the bracket is about $30.00 or so.

Ha

Yeah $33 came to mind from about 4 years or so ago. I remember the power cable about the same price and is nice thing to have if you have multiple radios in one spot and not planning on TX'ing on all of them at the same time..less cables the better.
