Maxtrac HUD defeats PL

Post by Anderegg »

I just purchased a Maxtrac to use as a receive only radio. It will have no microphone. Can the stupid HUB defeats PL feature be disabled in programming, or must I purchase a mic shorting plug? If I need the plug, what is the part number, and where do I get one on the cheap? :-)

BTW it is a low-band model.

grab a cat5 cable, lop off an end of it - leaving you about an inch of wiring. connect the wires for pins 3 & 4...this will force the hook line to ground, radio will think its hung up.

I guess that means no programming solution. I have some spare CAT5 cables laying around, will search intergoogle for the pin diagram and such, thanks!

You can always acquire the shorting plug from MOL also.

There IS a programming option. Load the code plug from the radio, choose Change/Edit Code Plug, Radio-Wide, then on the lower left you should see:

Off-Hook PL/DPL - - - [Y/N]

The manual states: "If this option is enabled, going “off-hook” with a microphone on a channel receiving the wrong PL/DPL code will not unsquelch the radio. The monitor button still functions normally, unsquelching the radio regardless of PL/DPL code. The off/hook PL/DPL can be programmed as a radio-wide function by selecting “Y” to enable it or “N” to disable it."

So you want to set it to "Y" to always require PL/DPL to open the squelch, just as if you had the mike in the hang-up bracket.
