Using Emulators for MSF 5000 DOS Software

I'm trying to use Dbox emulator on Windows 7 to run the MSF5000 RSS software. The software is running on the emulator, but I think I'm having a com port translation problem between the emulator and Windows 7.

Does anybody have any suggestions on running this software on an emulator with com port configuration?

Does the machine in question have "real" serial ports (i.e. implemented by a 16550 compatible UART), or just USB to serial cables?

Most DOS based RSS expects to be able to directly frob an old-school 16550 directly - expecting a DOS emulator to make a USB to RS-232 adapter look like a 16550 is a bit unrealistic -like expecting honesty from a politician.

The only version of DOSbox people here seem to have any luck with is a specially modified version of 0.65. Is this what you're using?

This will likely let you program with GP300/P110/GTX/LSC/Maxtrac/GM300 style RSS. I haven't had any luck at all with HT1000/MTSX/MCS/Visar/etc, style RSS. No idea if it will work for MSF5000.

Currently I was trying to use a computer with USB to serial port. I do have a computer available with the, "Old School," serial port so I will give it a try.
With regard to the post refering to a specially modified version of DOSbox 0.65. Does anyone have any information on what modifications need to be made?

There's a couple of hoops to jump through, but it's not too complicated.

First, download the original DOSbox 0.65 here:

Download the modified 'ocbus' exe file here:

http://home.arcor.de/h-a-l-9000/dosbox_ ... _ocbus.zip

Download required DLL files here:

http://builds.tharos-online.de/current_dosbox.zip

Install the original 0.65 first, then replace the exe file in the DOSbox folder with the 'ocbus' modified exe. Then take the 3 DLL's and place them into the same DOSbox folder as the exe file. Ignore the exe file that comes with the DLL's.

Once all that is done, you must go into the DOSBox.conf file with notepad & set and save the following:

serial1=directserial realport:com1 ocbus
serial2=disabled
serial3=disabled
serial4=disabled

That's it, things should work for you after this...although I don't know if MSF5000 will work.

It might work if you program through the SSCB mic jack, since that uses Bus+ and ground like a Maxtrac. And if you brick it at least it's easy to recover, although I'd expect a communications error to pop up before that.

I'm pretty sure I've used unmodified Dosbox 0.65 with a USB-TTL serial cable and was able to read/write an MSF5000 no problem...
What is this "ocbus" supposed to do?
