Hello everyone,
Will 2 Motorola Sabers, One with a straight DES Module and one with a DES-XL Module talk to each other? I have a keyloader and cable on the way but I'm trying to source DES Modules and wasn't sure about compatibility between the two.
Any info on this? Thanks!
DES and DES-XL on Saber 1?

In theory it should work, the XL option in the codeplug needs to be set to 'off' it it isnt already. The KVL on it's way is a DES/DES-XL algorithym ?

Hi,
Yes, It's a T3011DX that does both DES and DES-XL. Thanks for the info, I'll have the programmer disable XL as I never knew that was possible!
Also, Can a system saber securenet module talk to a saber 1 with in secure mode? Are the modules somehow different or not compatible between system sabers and regular sabers?

Saber and System saber Modules are exactly the same.

That's great, Thanks!FireCpt809 wrote:Saber and System saber Modules are exactly the same.
I was able to get 4 Motorola System Saber 3's with straight DES and 2 Motorola Saber 1's with DES-XL along with a KVL T3011-DX for about $550 total. Can't wait until they arrive to test everything out

Was this a decent deal?

They will communicate with each other just fine. You will need to disable XL on the units with DES-XL in them.
Expect significant coverage reduction on the non-XL format. Additionally, it doesn't work through standard repeaters either.

Yep, I heard that DES will result in less coverage.d119 wrote:They will communicate with each other just fine. You will need to disable XL on the units with DES-XL in them.

But that's the tradeoff I guess

Re: DES and DES-XL on Saber 1?
Technically speaking, its not DES that kills the coverage, its securenet itself..PRNJ wrote:Yep, I heard that DES will result in less coverage.
Re: DES and DES-XL on Saber 1?
The -XL notation is the secure equivalent of a range extender for the Securenet system, both radios wil talk in secure mode, but if only one radio has the -XL module, you will need to disable this feature in the codeplug for those channels.
