What data to include in an inventory
I'm doing an inventory of my department's portable radios (mostly XTS's). So far I have been gathering serial number, model, band, flashcode and firmware revision numbers. Is there anything else that folks would typically record? For example, is there any reason to record the ESN?

Asset tag # if you use them, person or department issued to, last date programmed or in shop/depot. I also do trunking ID's for each system radio is programmed to. You may not have this. If I swap radios, the EID stays with the new radio due to my alias database, only change the asset and serial number info from in service with a specific ID to out of service and in stock.TomSlick wrote:I'm doing an inventory of my department's portable radios (mostly XTS's). I do record the label we assign to each portable and what truck or officer they are assigned to. Beyond that, I have to go by what I can get off the radio itself in test mode or off the manufacturer's label. However going forward I'll try to start recording service dates. I'm inheriting the job of radio guy and we don't really have much in the way of existing records. You may want to check with the county radio maintenance folks as they should have a database of thereTomSlick wrote:I do record the label we assign to each portable and what truck or officer they are assigned to.
