Xts2500 issue

Post by NHfirefighter »

I have a xts2500i model III 8meg BN series radio. I assume its a Panter radio looking at the inside. I find the radio shuts off when the internals are put back in the case. If I leave the bottom slightly separated from the case the radio stays on and works fine. It tried replacing the flex cable thinking this might be the problem but changing it had no effect. I suspect the cable is getting pinched when the radio is buttoned up but not sure. Anyone have any ideas?

Is it an AN case on a BN radio? The chassis are different and an cases won't fit on a bn radio without some modification.

The thought crossed my mind, but I didn't think the AN came in 8megs which the radio shows it is an 8meg radio when put in service mode. Where would I see it showing on the chassis if it is AN or BN? The radio also shows in the CPS as a BN model number.

FWIW, I actually have an original factory-delivered radio (no eBay, Panter, depot, etc.) that is an AN with 8 Meg memory. It was manufactured during the week they transitioned from AN to BN. I didn't believe it either and if it hadn't been confirmed by both test mode AND a Motorola engineer, I still wouldn't. I'm not even sure how or why this happened to us. Honestly, it is a pain for me, as the rest of our fleet is all later all-BN variety and this one is our single early-purchase oddball. Best wishes with your technical issue, but just wanted to let you know the AN/BN thing has happened in the real world.

Oh that #$*@ is real common. Send in an AN 2500 and if they replace the board, they'll send back a BN board but put an AN model number in the radio. So you're stuck with the old 4 meg limitations. Gotta love the depot!

I can attest to that!

I bought 2 800meg XTS25k's from escomm that came back from the depot as BN radios, but with AN tags.

Crazy.
