CDM accessory pins

Post by redneck_1086 »

I have used the accessory output pins on the CDM series before to trigger lights, bells ect, but am curious on the current rating for them. I have searched and found maximum of 1 amp and saw somewhere else only a couple hundred milliamps. What I need to do is power a continuous solenoid, will the pins handle a solenoid or do i need to have a relay to control the solenoid?

I believe that the max current is 500 ma with a 60 volt max. This is not much when it comes to controlling relays / solenoids. my suggestion would be to use the output from the CDM to control a larger transistor that has some guts that will withstand heavy current surges and voltage spikes. It would also be a good idea to put a reverse diode across the coil to snub the reverse voltage spike when the control voltage is removed to release the relay.

What radios do you own?: Junk that comes and goes...

For the horn alert output that's what I recollect, half an amp max. Just enough poof to run one of those 30A black ice cube relays. Any solenoid bigger than that is probably asking for trouble. Any relay with a coil will need the diode clamp (if there is not one already incorporated inside).

If you are going to run AC only loads, an appropriately sized solid state relay is perfectly safe and takes only a few milliamps to trip on (and no diode needed).
Lots and lots of watts...

I understand that for the horn alert output (pin 4) but what about the other output pins? How much are they capable of?

I think it tells you in the rss as you configure the individual ports. Assume less than 100ma each since they are all open collector to ground type.
