Using a Pyramid repeater?

Hello everyone I need some help and suggestions.

We have a Uhf repeater nothing fancy, just a little home built 30 watt repeater, it is set up fairly high outside of town. I’d like to extend the range in town to reach it better. I was thinking of putting a UHF pyramid repeater in town on our 30 foot tower. Our little 2 and 4 watt portables can hit the repeater but sometimes it is kind of hit or miss or just static.

Would setting up the pyramid repeater in town work?

Would that help us in town by the portables hitting the Pyramid repeater then jumping to the main repeater?

what about moving the RX point for the repeater to a place where the portables could hit it better? double repeating is a recipe for disaster.

You didn't say if the portables are hearing the repeater in town OK. If they are, it may be better to consider installing a voter system where you add receivers in the areas where the portables are having problems getting back into the repeater. The down side is that you need a telephone line, a microwave link, or a radio link to connect the remote receivers back to the repeater.
