Hey guys, I was planning on purchasing several BAOFENG 888-s radios UHF.
Are these able to work on my GR300 repeater?
The frequency is TX 461.0625 and 466.0625 on the repeater with a PL of 179.9

Are these things even legal?
FCC Part 90?
Anything else I should know about these things.
I want to use these with my repeater as some general talk around radios, there defiantly small enough to care every wheres. We seem to go through radios like crazy either broken or damaged, etc. These almost seem to be like some bubble pack radios but just capable of doing our frequencies.

Input appreciated , thank you

Amazon has them also.

Maybe the answer is to go for better quality radios instead of cheaper ones.hfd921 wrote:We seem to go through radios like crazy either broken or damaged, etc.

Re: Off brand radio Questions????
no, they are not part 90.
they are Chinese garbage.
Do yourself a favor, if you are using radios in the fire service, or any public safety- buy a public safety fit for duty radio. Your lives, your fellow responder's lives, and the public depend on it.
It doesn't have to be an XTS or APX, but even a CP200 is better than this garbage coming out of China. Most of these low priced Chicomm radios:
-aren't FCC part 90 certified
-many do not do "splinter" channels, e.g. 158.8225
-are not supported by any US service center
-have HORRENDOUS adjacent channel rejection, overload easily even from out of band RF nearby
-are built like a piece of schit
Most of them are based on a "walkie talkie on chip" IC from Taiwan, the same shitty IC found in $12 FRS bubble pack radios sold at Dollar General.
Do you really want your guys using what is essentially a child's toy for public safety?
I'd buy reconditioned HT1000 DN radios before I'd ever buy any of these Baoturds.
At least they are built well, properly FCC certified, and they have superior RF performance.
You wouldn't use a garden hose to fight a house fire, so why use a child's toy for a radio?

How do these things make it in to the US, no FCC ID they should be contraband, no ?
Re: Off brand radio Questions????
They have an FCC ID... but it's only good for Part 97 use. Very odd that they are advertising compatibility up to 470MHz, though.RadioSouth wrote:How do these things make it in to the US, no FCC ID they should be contraband, no ?

Re: Off brand radio Questions????
If someone has the FCC ID# it might be interesting to see how it's listed with OET, Something's amiss and it would seem the Part 97 certification would be voided if it were being sold with the readily availabile feature of operation out of band. I'm betting it's not certified to go the advertized 400-470.
