Encryption question

Post by K4RUR »

Hello,
I purchased 2 encryption modules on ebay, I know, I know, anyway. I got the modules, they are supposed to be NTN8967D DES-XL DES-OFB modules for Astro Saber/Astro Spectra. I loaded them in my radios and they come up in the service menu as DVP XL modules. The guy I bought them from says he is 100% positive that he sent the right ones and that it must be something with my radios. Here is my question, could they BE the right modules and my radio report them as wrong?

Thanks in advance,
Lowry K4RUR

P.S. I tried to keyload them with a 3011DX and they will not accept keys.

If you put the radio in service mode and the display is only showing you DVP-XL, then it sounds to me like the seller sent you the incorrect modules.

Was there any part numbers on the modules?

I no longer have a link to the list but a list does exist detailing all of the different encryption modules.

The modules should have a NTN number on them, you can check that against a list and see if they are correct. DVP isn't compatible with DES/DES-XL so you might be better off returning them. If the guy says "tough, no refunds" open a dispute with eBay or PayPal and they will likely refund you the full amount.

Well, filed the Paypal dispute and I got stuck holding the bag. He insisted that I swapped the boards out of the carriers and I had to eat the money. He's a crook and a jerk. Oh well, karma will get him. Anybody need a couple of DVP-XL modules in DES-XL/OFB carriers?

If it's OK with the mods, please let us know who the seller is so he doesn't burn any of us. GARY

Did you pay by credit card? If so, call them up and chargeback to Paypal. Item not received is item not received. Not surprised Paypal screwed you. Hopefully you can screw them right back. :x

Chargebacks to PayPal get their attention pretty quick when there is an issue. I had to do that last spring after they refused to help with a known scammer.

eBay isn't much better if your a buyer..currently battling them to remove a strike on my account after a seller filed a non-paid item claim - however it was paid for and delivered and shown the PayPal transaction ID and a note from the seller that it was paid for - but won't do anything unles the seller cancles the complaint (and is not responding to emails).
