900 MCS 2000 fail 01/82

Post by N4KVE »

FAIL 01/82 FATAL External EEPROM checksum error Bad external codeplug data, defective external EEPROM

My friend has a 900 MCS 2000 type 1 that recently started displaying this. The radio was brand NOS, & except for the factory default freq, I was the 1st person to program it. It worked fine for a few years on 902/927, but when he pulled on the mike cord, this started to show. Now the radio just displays fail 01/82. I still have the saved archive in my laptop. Could the radio be saved if I write his archive back into the radio, or is it junk? Too bad as the radio has only a few hours of use on it. GARY

I just spoke to the radio owner on UHF. This started happening when he picked up the mike to talk. He didn't yank on the cord. But the radio showed fail 1/82, but then went back to normal. It did this a few more times the next few days, but is now stuck at fail 1/82. On Monday I will try to write his saved archive back into the radio & see what happens. He's ready to buy another radio. I programmed his saved archive successfully several times, but the radio still displays fail 1/82, & uprogrammed. When I try to read the radio, my laptop displays no user function provided to convert block type to id for block type 50 unpack failed. It's probably cheaper to buy another radio than to fix this one. However are there any parts that can be salvaged, like a rf board, or is this radio one board? [controller, & rf] GARY
