Any audio difference between HSN4030A - HSN4031B speakers ?

Are there any noticeable audio or other quality differences
between Motorola's HSN4030A ( often sent with MCS2000 ) and
HSN4031B speakers ? Both are 8ohm and both would be bought new.

The intended use is for the XTL series radios which seem to
call for an 8ohm speaker if I recall correctly.

Appearance and the pry apart housing of the 4030 are not an issue
unless it affects audio quality.

Are they close enough in audio quality and construction to go
for the less expensive of the two where 5 + speakers are needed ?

The HSN4030 is no longer available (on MOL).

The HSN4031 is no longer available. Motorola subs it to the HSN4038.

I don't have detail on the HSN4030, but the 4031 and 4038 are both 8 ohm speakers.

The 4038 is a "Euro style" (rounded edges) and is "weather resistant".

Both models are being sold off as NOS.
The Euro look did not inspire me, but
if they're good, they are cheaper.

Weather "resistant" often suggests some
alternate speaker material such as one
has on the patio at pool side.

Of course, if the users of these radios
don't bother to roll up the windows in
their automobiles, a distinct possibility
in our climate, then we have larger problems.

The XTL like the Spectra uses 2 impedance speakers. For maximum audio use the 3.2 ohm speaker. If you use it in a quite environment the 8 ohm speaker is fine but you will have less audio.

A couple of choices for 3.2 ohm speakers are the HSN4032 which is the older "square" version and the HSN4039 which is the newer "Euro style" rounded model. These will provide around 13 watts of audio (compared to 5 to 7 watts with the 8 ohm models).

Excellent point. Many times it is necessary to clean out the 'cob webs'.....

You would be surprised how much dirt and dust collects in a mobile environment.
