quantar not muting when transmitting

Post by monsi »

The vhf repeater am working on has 3 working quantars on trunking network so i decided to revive the 4th one which was only missing a SCM.I got a SCM with firmware x020.09.042 and programmed using codeplug version 9 R14.04.00.The quantar is starting ok and has no alarms. However when transmitting it mutes some words .

i. Where did i go wrong?
ii.is there any solution to this?

Have you performed a full alignment on the station after replacing the SCM? Sounds like you haven't.

The Subject of the post is misleading.
It should read "quantar muting when transmitting"

Like the man said two times and do not skip a step in the alignment. If running Astro or simulcast the mod comp is critical so spend your time there to make the slope look right. Time spent on the bench doing it right the first time will save you some headaches later. Tuning data is not saved in an archived codeplug.

Oh and if this happens to be an I.R. setup you do realize that the network will crossload all stations the latest firmware out of the versions in the stations on the Tnet. If this happens on an live system it will be interesting watching the blinky lights and praying it comes back up... Be forewarned.

also when working with simulcast, your reference is critical and thus the reason for an external 10MHz or 5MHz reference. For a simulcast to operate correctly your ideal freq error should be no more then plus or minus 2Hz yes thats right +/- 2Hz This way all sites that can be heard by the subscriber unit should be getting the signal at the exact same time, if it doesnt you get your hetrodyne. Also when doing your mod comp 1 and 2 make sure you save each mod comp adjustment immediatly before going to the second mod comp adjustment. failure to do so will void what ever adjustments you make. You will know when something is not right when you do your simo optimization.

Also I seem to recall the SCMs from the DBS units would act like this when put in a machine programmed for voice. I could be wrong
