"Portable" Desktop mount for PM400s?

Post by sailor »

Hello,

We have a need a few times each year to setup a temporary station which utilizes 2 PM400 mobiles, amongst a bunch of other stuff. Space is tight, and I would love to "stack" the radios vertically somehow and sit them on the desk for easy access. I've tried all number of search terms and come up empty. Anyone familiar with some type of simple "console" for something like this? I don't want them just laying there moving around all over the place.

A couple of ideas would be a vehicle console, or Astron makes a power supply that mounts the radio in the box. Could also fabricate a box and use a couple of in-dash kits to mount the radios. Does Motorola make a repeater cabinet for these like they make for the Maxtrac, GM300, CDM series ? If so you'd have room for two radios and a PS.

I don't know how "portable" you need it up be, but if you just want a desktop rack that is manageable and easily moved, try a 19" rack desktop turret. I have a Lowell L40-19 that has a sloped front and allows for 11U of rack space. Middle Atlantic makes a similar desktop rack.

There are also various places that make custom 19" rack faceplates...

Thanks guys for the suggestions. The rack idea is smart, though for us it would be too much real estate. I shall try to look at vehicle consoles that might do the trick though.

A couple of pieces of plywood and some screws into the sides of the radio should do what you want.

You can mount microphone clips on the side and speakers on the other side.
