HT1250 Unregister a 'Registered' Feature???

Post by BIGLDH »

Hey gang,

I have a very strange issue I'm hoping you might help me with. I'm doing some programming on a friend's HT1250 LS UHF radio, using his 6.12.08 (I believe)CPS and computer with ribless programming cable. When trying to write a codeplug the CPS throws up the "Due to FCC Narrowbanding... blah blah blah we can only program 12.5 splits and 20/25 feature needs a special key from MSOL..." then when you click on this window, the msg disappears and another one stating "The CPS operation failed on this device... blah blah blah... see the readme.txt for common known issues for this error.

So, the first thing I did was to verify 12.5 splits for all channels... -done - verified....

2nd: Retry write...

3rd: Check all connections...tight, radio reads perfectly... cable working.... (used day before on my rig at home with 6.11 and no problems)

4th: Checked the FEATURE tab on the command bar, and clicked on REGISTERED FEATURES... Under this it lists 20/25 split but then in the next column, it says NOT REGISTERED...

He reports he has uninstalled and reinstalled the CPS three times now with same result each time. I have not done this for him as he's a very capable individual... I can read the radio perfectly. Edit the codeplug accordingly, save the edit... Try to write and the error messages again. I am at a complete loss here, so ANY advice is appreciated.

I've been perfectly content with my 6.11 version and I am truly questioning whether the latest and greatest CPS is truly worth the upgrade.

My guess is that some place in the codeplug your trying to use a wide channel where the software thinks you have to have a narrow channel. It will take going through the radio and checking each and every transmit channel setting for the TX deviation setting. The RX national weather channels are exempt from the narrow band requirement.

It sounds like he needs to call Motorola and get another entitlement ID and re-regiser. If you do not have the 25khz entitlement ID enabled you must go to the trunking channel list and enable all of the channels that are greyed out, change them to 12.5 and then uncheck them to grey them out again.

This was my exact first thought when I read the OP. Would certainly be applicable since it's an LS model.

HUGE THANK YOU to Ard099 and KG4INW... It was, INDEED, the Trunking channels needing the 12.5 adjustment. Again... THANK YOU. I've never done an LS before and so in my ignorance, never thought to check the trunking personalities as we aren't using them. So happy not chasing my tail now!!!

Can't express enough the gratitude to everyone who contributes here. Always amazed at the knowledge base you all have.

You're welcome. At first I thought it was really strange considering you're not using those channels at all but I realized it's likely that M wrote the CPS to simply block all 25 kHz personalities without the entitlement and since you can't delete LTR repeaters (just enable or disable), that's what you get. As far was NOAA WX, you still can't wideband it in this CPS without the entitlement, despite it being exempt. Same for ham freqs.
