XTS3000 programming help
I have an VHF XTS3000 with the display and 6-buttons under it. I am trying to find the setting in the software that allows you to use the channel selector on the top to change channels. I haven't been able to find it. I am also looking for the setting to turn the beep on when you press the PTT button. I am using CPS R05.03.00 and I am kind of new to Motorola software so any help would be appreciated.--Thanks!
Re: XTS3000 programming help
For the Channel Select...in CPS...
"Radio Configuration" --> "Controls" --> "Switches"
Set the Rotary Control to "Channel Select". Make sure your channels are properly defined in the Zone Configuration for each zone. If your Rotary Control was already set for Channel Select, then I'm guessing your zones were all set for each channel to be the same personality.
For the beep when you press the PTT, I believe you're referring to "Talk Permit Tone" which isn't available on the 3000. It's only on the XTS 5000.
Only other "beep on PTT" on the 3000 that I know is MODAT signalling, but that requires MODAT in the flash code.

Re: XTS3000 programming help
The beep I am talking about is just a single beep when the PTT button is pushed. When I turn the top channel knob from 1 to 2 it says unprogrammed on the screen and give the steady error tone. I am pretty sure it is set to change the channel already. I know I am doing something wrong in the programming but I'm not sure what. Anymore input on this would be appreciated.
Re: XTS3000 programming help
I think the single beep you're referring to might be "PTT Sidetone" which is configured in the MDC System settings. I don't have too much experience with that, so that's about as far as I can take you.
As for the channel selector, sounds like it was already set for Channel Select and that you just need to program the rest of the personalities (unless you already have them in configured) and then just set them in the Zone Channel Assignment.

Re: XTS3000 programming help
It's been some years since I have done this and the only way I ever did this with a xts3000 was by using MDC but there may be another way that I don't remember but here is the MDC method:
In CPS go to
CONVENTIONAL and expand this menu,
Scroll down to MDC and expand this menu.
Click on MDC system and then expand on 'MDC system 1' and click the GENERAL tab.
Check, (select) LEADING PTT ID and PTT ID SIDETONE will be selected automatically.
Click on the MDC SYSTEM 1, ADVANCED tab and lower the SYSTEM PRETIME (ms) value down a bit to something around 50 to 100 ms
NOTE:you will want to play with this setting depending on how long you want the MDC tone to come across the speaker after pressing PTT.
Close the MDC menu and open up the CONVENTIONAL PERSONALITY and select the personality that you want to have send the MDC tone.
In the CONVENTIONAL PERSONALITY page click on SIGNALLING.
SIGNAL TYPE, (down arrow and select MDC)
Below this on SYSTEM number down arrow and select 1 for the MDC system 1 that was setup above.
And just below this you can select PTT ID if you want to but since your not really wanting to send any MDC data you could leave this unselected.
Next click on RADIO CONFIGURATION at the top of the cps list.
Click to expand RADIO WIDE and click on ALERT TONES,
Select the ALERT TONES check box and lower the ALERT TONE VOLUME OFFSET (db) level down to a value around -6.
Be advised that others will hear your tx MDC noise transmitted briefly no matter how low you set the times.
