Maxtrac/Radius DPL Codes

Post by cswilsn »

Hey,

Just messing around with a radius, and an older maxtrac....For some reason DPL 255 is not available.

Does anyone know why this was?

I noticed lots of other manufacturers support it....Seems a few are unavailable.

is there a way to forcibly set the code?

Thanks for any insight!

What radios do you own?: Not enough apparently!

According to this list, that's not a valid DPL. Why some allow it, I'm not sure. Also not aware of any way to force it. http://www.repeater-builder.com/tech-info/pl+dpl.html

Other radio mfgrs have used these Non Standard/bastard DPL codes as a way of locking out Motorola competition.

Some Motorola models allow entering any number for a DPL, many don't, including the Maxtrac/GM300. Not sure if it could be a simple hex mod to the codeplug, or if it would be a firmware thing.
No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.

That's my understanding. Some of the non-standard DPL codes are actually other codes inverted which is why they were left off the list in the first place.

For more info than you'll ever need about DPL/DCS, read this page:

This is correct. Some models will also let you any non-standard PL as well, and the radio will synthesize both the non-standard DPL and PL. CP200 are a good example of this. CDM series will also synthesize pretty much any DPL or PL entered as well, IIRC, although how well they work in the field would remain to be seen.

Welp, I'm scanning DCS codes now to see if I can find an alternate :). I am going to grab a CDM1550 I have in inventory and try to punch 255 into it and see if I cant catch the code while scanning.

I'd assume there is going to be some catch to it, I see why/where DPL/DCS came in (lack of PL tones), however, were there really any areas SO saturated that a combination of both was actually ever needed? I have very few customers that actually use it.
