I have a HSN4038A speaker which is a 7.5W water resistant speaker.
Can I use a HSN4038A with an XTL5000?
The standard speaker for an XTL5000 is a 13W HSN4032, I think.
I've checked the internet and I think it should be OK but I just want to check..especially as a HSN4038A is only rated at 7.5W vs 13W for the standard speaker.
Will I need to wire the HSN4038A to different accessory pins so I don't run the full 13W and blow the speaker?
Does a "water resistant" speaker sound OK vs a standard speaker...or does the water proofing cause the speaker to be a bit muffled?
Thanks

You may want to look over this thread if you have not already.

Re: HSN4038A Speaker - will it work with XTL5000?
Thanks
I've checked out some "Astro25" brochures and the HSN4038 speaker is listed.
Motorola says that the XTL2500 is compatible in one of the brochures but no mention of the XTL5000.
A few dealers websites say that the XTL5000 is compatible.
In general, there does not appear to be a clear definition of what is compatible....but I've tried it and the speaker seems to work OK.

The caution i highlighted in the other thread indicates that any of the XTL series is looking for an 8 ohm speaker and if you have anyg8tzl2004 wrote:Thanks

8 ohm speaker you should be fine with that. If you use one of those other older type 3.2 ohm speaker you probably won't hear the
difference but the audio output amp could possibly have a long term problem if heat builds up. The caution was not that specific with
details but i would heed the caution and use only an 8 ohm speaker but if you don't that is not to say it won't work for you. YMMV
