FCC question

Post by hfd921 »

Had a pair of old frequencies, both are narrow band uhf, station class was channel 1 FX1 control and Channel 2 was FX2 fixed relay for a trigger relay which is no longer in use.

Can these be used for a repeater “Channel 1 TX Channel 2 RX”?

Does the license type have to be changed to MO?

Does it have to be at the designated location, can the location be changed?

Does FCC choose the PL tones?

Technically, yes you will need to modify the license for the repeater input to MO since you will no longer be transmitting from a fixed location and will now be mobile. I'd suggest adding the MO to the license instead of changing the FX2 to MO. Better to have it both ways. You can certainly change the location, which will now be a radius around an arbitrary control point, which would likely be the site of the receiver.

The FCC does not choose PL tones. I have found that my local APCO coordination chapter coordinates PL tones. An IMSA coordination for fire I did in another state did not get PL coordinated. And I know PCIA doesn't coordinate PL on business band frequencies. The PL will never show up on the license, but will remain on file with the coordination body that coordinated the license as a valid condition of the coordination.
