You need to dig a little deeper into what is going on. Take a volt meter and watch the high current feed to the radio. Also take a look at the ignition feed voltage on both the yellow and the small red wire for the control head.
the TOT set to 120 seconds should be a good setting. But do you have the alert tone set to indicate the radio has timed out?
It wouldn't take that long to do the simple testing as mentioned above. Might take 2 people to hold the mic and key the transmitter, while the other person looks at the volt meter.
Another thought that come to mind is what is the status of the engine when these radio problems are taking place? Is the vehicle running at an idle? Are all the warning lights turned on? This would make a huge difference in the way your going to do your testing. Maybe the high idle might have to be activated to prevent low vehicle voltage when on scene.
Give the boys on here something to work with to help provide you with some feedback on suggestions.
