I have set up a programming computer. It is an old 1 GHz Pentium 3 with 320 meg ram running XP (up to date). I installed the version 4.0 1225 software on it. It ran twice. When I hooked the radio up to it (a GR1225) it did not communicate through the serial port on a known good programming cable. I uninstalled it.
I looked for another version. I found a version 3.2 that did not install properly. The computer that had programmed the radio correctly in the past is running version 3.1. I installed 3.1 and got an error: insufficient memory to run 16 bit windows program. The computer is very clean and nothing else is installed or running besides some Kenwood programming software (it is not running at the time of this test.)
I uninstalled 3.1 and reinstalled 4.0. Now it is getting the same error "insufficient memory". Increasing pagefile size, playing around with compatibility mode settings, all has no effect.
What is going on here?

Versions up to 3.2 will only work properly in Windows 95/98. You do require 4.0 for XP, so you had the correct version to start with. Even though you've uninstalled the earlier versions, there are likely files left behind & messing up your 4.0
Your best bet might be to install a demo or freeware version of an uninstaller program. A couple of good free/demo programs are below:

http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uni ... nload.html
What you want to do is remove your 4.0, then install one of the programs above. Set it to monitor your installations, and then install 3.1. Once complete, then use the program to uninstall 3.1...since it monitored the full install, it will then be able to remove all traces of it, including registry entries, dll files and such.
Afterwards, re-install 4.0 and see if the error has gone away. Hopefully it has...I still don't know what the problem was with the software not making connection to the repeater though.

Re: 1225 Software "Insufficient Memory"
On further reflection I think it might have been that I only tried Com3/Com4 but I had plugged the radio into a physical Com5 or Com6 and was not patient or thorough enough to notice that before I assumed it wasn't working.wavetar wrote:Afterwards, re-install 4.0 and see if the error has gone away. Still, the computer that does work is running 3.1 on XP, and that is how I initially programmed and aligned the radio. But I was thinking along the same lines, I need to get something removed from the computer that is still in there.

Re: 1225 Software "Insufficient Memory"
Thanks for the ideas. I wound up doing a system restore to the point before all of this started. Then I reinstalled 4.0 and connected the serial to the CORRECT port and all was well.
Re: 1225 Software "Insufficient Memory"
Glad to hear you got it working. This confuses me though:
I don't see how that's possible. The software will run, but the actual dll files needed to call the serial port in XP don't exist, so you cannot read/write through the port unless you use version 4.0. It's specifically why Motorola wrote that version.Birken Vogt wrote: Still, the computer that does work is running 3.1 on XP, and that is how I initially programmed and aligned the radio.
