So much for it being a automated system.....

Can't understand why you can't even search archives.

It's known in politics as a "Statue of Liberty Play" If cuts are threatened, make sure you inconvenience the most number of people and have the greatest public effect. Something like shutting down the statue of Liberty. All the tourists will blame the Nasty Republicans for ruining their vacations.

Users of the FCC's database are similarly inconvenienced. They're hoping for the same effect in this case. Something else to blame the Republicans over.

I'm not buying it.

Really irks me that the FCC is a "customer-funded" agency that ends up "donating" money (sorry, I meant surplus revenue transfers) to the Treasury each year.

2 thoughts...

1. - Does every licensee receive a pro-rated refund or credit based on the number of days the FCC will be shut down?

2. - Read through some of the details in the "Shutdown plan" posted on the website. They mention needing I believe 12 full time IT staff as "necessary personel". For what? To make sure someone doesn't accidently activate the online database access? Ridiculous.

No, there will be no refunds forthcoming, that's for sure.

IT people to keep their major systems outage notification thingy to stay up and running. It's obviously quite important for TV stations to be able to report signal outages to the FCC during this critical period in our nation's history

I heard that those guys were assigned to the server farm.

Four to make sure the AC was working.

Four to walk the aisles and make sure that hard drives and blinky lights were working.

Four to make coffee and flip the lights on and off at appropriate times of the day.
