"stud mounted" color code on portable Antennas.

Post by giguchan »

Group,
I recently had to change out my UHF PORTABLE HT1550-XLS (AAH25RDN9DU8AN -403-470) Stubby antenna for the longer Rattail version. It seems to me that the radio does not behave as it used to TX/RX. I know with some Moto Antennas there is a color code. Can anyone tell me the CC for said radio?
I think for this split there might not be any color at all just a silver stud- again looking for confirmation.
Thank s.

The color code is pretty much used as the tie breaker to differentiate between similar looking antenna's. This rattail is pretty much unique in appearance and covers the whole 403-512 range so no dot needed. Did you get the rattail from a reliable source ? There are Motorola marked knockoffs out there that that don't work well. The OEM tail usually gives you better performance than the helical stubby.

Hey there,
Thanks for the reply. I know the rat tail normally works better... The ham system I use has better coverage than most and to tell you the truth i'll bet I don't even need an Antenna. Thanks for the information though. I did get the Antenna from a Authorized Moto shop. they have since closed up after close to 40 years in the business. I do have a MOL ACCT but a lot of the time it's easier to go to a shop if they have it in stock I'm good. if not, then I get it online at MOL. I just had to go through that narrow band nonsense with MOL... now my SW works again. my stubby bent(also OEM) so I decided to just go with the rat tail.. thanks again.
