Centracom Gold Elite

Post by celltech25 »

Anyone know on a gold elite since Motorola no longer sales or supports them what I would need to add another position to our current 5 position system

I know the physical hardware, COIM, CIE, computer monitor and such, But is there any software restrictions that will hold me up??

I would imagine that as long a you have the physical portions as you already listed, you should be able to add in the extra op. We were planning on adding a 5th position to our system but decided not to as we're planning on completely upgrading the whole dispatch center. (Besides, my CEB is pretty full at the moment......I'd have to put another one up if we add anything else to the system.......)

You might be surprised. They added positions to a CCII+ console about six years ago. CCII+ was the DOS based console before Gold Elite came out. If nothing else, they can provide the expertise you need to put it all together. You may have to go out on the market to find the hardware yourself from agencies that are upgrading.

As i suspected, No support from Motorola on the centracom gold elite

only thing the tech said was to make sure the coim has the same firmware that we had,

so I guess there arent any other requimrents for software which was my main concern

now to try and track down enough parts

They are correct in that you need the same firmware in the new COIM as what you are using. Mixing firmware will result in a crashed system in all likely hood.

Actually, there are requirements for software. First, all console computers must be running the O/S and service pack version which works with the firmware in the COIM's. So if your current consoles are running XP, SP 1, then so must your 'new' console position...otherwise it can't talk to the COIM.

Second, you must run the same version of Centracom Gold at all consoles. So you can't just pick up a CD from another system or ebay & think it'll work. Hopefully you have your particular version on a CD somewhere.

Yeah i ahve the necessary windows version and software, and was able to find a coim with correct firmware waiting on other parts to come in and should install in a couple weeks

what i was wondering was liscense fee's I figured "M" would have had somehting in the server software that had to be upgraded to accept a 6th position guess they left that out

Actually, now that you mention it, I think they do. It's been 10+ years since I've dealt with the CDM/server side of things...isn't there a licensing dongle in the server?

No.

For Motorola it's an "On your honor" system with Gold Elites

The only restriction for licensing is client amounts to server OS. (Function of the OS)
