XTS priority scan

Post by TomSlick »

I did a search and found an old thread about this, but it didn't quite address my question. On my department-issued XTS2500, when I select talk groups for the scan list, the scan icon is displayed with or without a trailing dot. Some googling finds this relates to priority, but also mentions the dot can be flashing or not, which doesn't happen on my radio - it's only solid or not there at all.

Some experimenting on the radio shows only one talk group can be set with the dot at a time. So, am I correct to assume that this indicates the priority channel, which takes precedence over others in the scan list?

Also, how does that relate to the currently selected channel if it differs from the priority channel during scan? Does the priority channel traffic override the traffic on the selected channel? (or is all of this dependent on CPS settings?)

Thanks

What radios do you own?: APX

A flashing dot after the Z scan symbol indicates priority channel 1. A solid dot after the Z scan symbol indicates priority channel 2. If the scan list is set up for selected channel as priority 1, then you can fix a second priority channel in the scan list, or set a button or menu item for dynamic priority to tag a second priority channel on the fly. If you set a fixed channel in the scan list as priority 1, then the radio will ignore the selected channel, and revert to the priority channel you set when scanning.. Hope this helps.

Stupidity creates job security!

If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..

CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

OK, what does the fact that when I select talk groups in the scan list, toggling through the selection only gives me the icon or the icon with dot, but not flashing, tell me? I never see the icon with a flashing dot.

Thanks for your reply

Probably because a second priority is not allowed by the software settings in the scan setup page. Scan can be set up numerous ways. For instance, it can be set up to allow no priority channels, or to allow one priority channel, or to allow a first priority and a second priority, or it can be set up to provide a fixed scan list with no operator select options. There are more options, such as mode slaved scan where channels have a fixed scan list that is attached to the particular mode selected, etc.
curmudgeon.....and I like it.
