MCS2000 display issue
I've had this remote mount UHF mcs2000 installed for almost a year and earlier this morning I turned it on but the screen wouldn't refresh when it would change channels and strange characters would start showing up, now it's only showing these black boxes. It still functions as normal, the backlighting works and receives fine. Is the control head toast or is it something else?

- What radios do you own?: too many to list here apparent
Re: MCS2000 display issue
I'm no expert and never seen this issue with my MCS's but perhaps try re-seating the umbilical plugs a few times and see if that makes any differences. I'm thinking there's possibly a corroded creating an issue. If that doesn't work I'd try another head. I always keep a spare umbilical, head and speaker for testing now they are cheap enough to obtain. The MCS is still a great radio and IMHO if you don't need ASTRO/P25 they are still the best bang for buck especially over the Warris series which your unable to edit the scan groups on the fly for conventional priority scan.
Re: MCS2000 display issue
I've seen many problems with the MCS 2000 that have been solved by RESOLDERING the header connectors in both the control head and the brick.
The issue with these is that they are surface mounted, and not through-hole. Any amount of flex on them regularly enough will cause them to become intermittent, as they break away from the board.
Pull the head and brick apart and reflow the solder on all of the pins of the header connector that the control cable connects to on each side.
Please report your findings back to us.

This. The header on the brick might have glue over the pins on one side.d119 wrote:I've seen many problems with the MCS 2000 that have been solved by RESOLDERING the header connectors in both the control head and the brick.
